Welcome to the City of Philip!

Philip is a welcoming friendly progressive community in western South Dakota with a population of 779. It is centrally located between Rapid City and Pierre on US Highway 14 and SD Highway 73.

A great deal of growth with businesses and agriculture as well as a new school has happened in Philip! All amenities can be found here from health care to banking, shopping and agriculture to name a few.

Philip is named after James “Scotty” Philip who is known for saving the buffalo. The school’s mascot is his namesake, “Philip Scotties.”

Scotty Philip Days is held annually in August (August 9-11, 2024). More information is available at this link or a schedule of events can be found here. The Philip Match Bronc Ride and Ranch Rodeo is also held annually in June. More information available at this link.
